I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Population Health Sciences of UT Health San Antonio and the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's & Neurodegenerative Diseases, where I lead the Population Neuroscience Core. I am also a Framingham Heart Study investigator within the Neurology and Neurogenetics group since 2013 and serve as Adjunct Faculty at the Department of Neurology of Boston University School of Medicine.
I am PI in several grants investigating the role of mitochondrial DNA features in Alzheimer’s Disease in diverse cohorts from the Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) Program, the identification of gut microbiome signatures and related metabolic yields in Alzheimer’s disease in the Texas Alzheimer’s Research and Care Consortium (TARCC), the validation of biomarkers for vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia in the MarkVCID consortium, and the identification of psychosocial, lifestyle, environmental, and genomic factors contributing to dementia disparities in Mexican Americans in the San Antonio Heart and Mind Study (SAHMS).
