Eduardo Macias Enriquez, MD

Assistant Professor

Eduardo Macias Enriquez, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the
University of Texas in San Antonio. He graduated with honors from medical
school at the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez in 2010. He then became an
invited scholar and research associate at the University of California in San
Francisco from 2012-2013.  He completed his pediatric internship and
residency at Texas Tech in El Paso Texas in 2016 and fellowship in pediatric
cardiology at Washington University in Saint Louis Missouri in 2019. In 2019 he
also received extra training in fetal echocardiography at the Children's Hospital
in Los Angeles. Dr. Macias is a board certified pediatrician since 2016 and is
currently a subspecialty board candidate.

Dr. Macias is in engaged in detection and management of fetuses with
congenital heart disease, and continues to care for them during their hospital
stay and subsequent visits. He is leading a co-joint project with University
Hospital  to develop a fetal cardiology center of excellence. This
collaboration has provided him the unique opportunity to improve prenatal
diagnosis for fetuses with critical heart lesions in the region, and improve
the neurodevelopmental outcomes in this population.

Dr. Macias’s current research interests include cardiomyopathy seen in
sickle cell disease, ethics in fetal cardiology, and improving congenital heart
disease prenatal detection in underserved regions. He is also involved in work
to develop a teaching  application in fetal echocardiography with the goal
of  increasing the prenatal detection of congenital heart disease.
