Dr.Marcos I. Restrepo, MD, MSc, PhD is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship program at the Department of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He specializes in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at the German School in Medellin, Colombia. He received his Doctor of Medicine in 1991 at the University of CES (formerly Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud - CES) in Medellin, Colombia. In 2000, he completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine followed by
fellowships in Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine completed in 2004. Dr. Restrepo acquired board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He also completed in 2003 a Master in Science in Clinical Investigation at the UTHSCSA and in 2017 he received his PhD in Medicine - Cum Laude with Internal Mention from the University of Valencia, Spain. He is a member of both pneumonia guidelines sponsored by the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). He is the current chair of the Chest Infections Network of CHEST - American College of Chest Physicians. He serves as Associate Editor for European Respiratory Journal and Respirology and a member of the CHEST editorial board.
