Ghazwan M Kroma, MD
Dr. Kroma received his MD degree from Damascus University in Syria in 1994. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology in 1997 at Damascus University. Dr. Kroma worked as a Diagnostic Radiologist in Syria and Saudi Arabia from 1997 to 2004. He then completed a Neuroradiology fellowship at Louisiana State University in 2005; followed by two years of Interventional Radiology fellowships at Louisiana State University and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He joined UT Health San Antonio as faculty in 2007. He is certified by the American Board of Radiology for diagnostic radiology followed by a Certificate of Advanced Qualification in Vascular Interventional radiology (CAQ). His expertise include: Local treatment of liver cancers by radioembolization, chemoembolization and thermal ablation, local treatment of renal cancer by intra-arterial embolization and radiofrequency ablation, Uterine fibroid embolization, kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty , endovascular treatment of peripheral arterial disease, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts and balloon assisted obliteration of gastric varices, management of post liver and kidney tranasplantation complications, dialysis access maintenance, in addition to multiple percutaneous and endovascular procedures.

Superior Vena Cava (SVC) Filters Placed Over Central Lines-Analysis of Line Trapping and Difficulties with Line Retrieval: An In vitro Experimental Study 2013 Sep. Available from: WWW.researchgate.net/publication Placement of superior vena cava (SVC) filters has been shown to be both safe and effective in preventing symptomatic pulmonary embolism in patients with upper extremity deep venous thrombosis that have contraindications to anticoagulation therapy. In many patients, existing central lines pose a challenge to SVC filter placement due to the theoretical risk of line displacement and/or entrapment.
To assess the risk of catheter entrapment by filter legs during SVC filter deployment and the risk of subsequent filter migration during catheter removal; a model was created by placing a 22 mm vascular graft inside a plastic tube and submerged in a warm saline bath. Different types of filters were deployed over different types of central lines, the lines were then removed under fluoroscopic surveillance noting any line trappong, migration, and/or tilting of the filters.Journal Article
