Allison Grimes, MD, MSCI
Associate Professor/Clinical
I am a pediatric oncologist and clinical researcher with a research focus on treatment-related toxicities of childhood cancer, identification of risk groups and risk gene markers for adverse effects, with particular emphasis on ethnic disparities among adolescents and young adults with cancer (AYA.) As a practicing pediatric oncologist, I co-lead our Pediatric Leukemia & Lymphoma program and am inaugural Director of the AYA Cancer Program at our minority-based safety-net hospital and NCORP institution. My clinical experience drives my commitment to ongoing improvements in supportive care techniques and access for all childhood cancer patients. This effort is supported by my position as the NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) liaison for the Children’s Oncology Group’s steering committees for Cancer Control (CCL) and Vice Chair of AYA Steering. I also serve as our institution’s Responsible Investigator for AYA. I am currently an active leader in COG Cancer Care Delivery research. Regionally, I serve as Program Director for a multi-institutional prevention project across 5 Texas children’s cancer centers focused on multi-level interventions to provide education and direct access to HPV vaccinations in the cancer survivorship setting. I am also co-PI for a multi-institutional study to improve supportive care in childhood cancer based on the SSPedi symptom screening tool and the web-based SPARK platform.
