George Kudolo, Ph.D., CPC, FAIC, FAACC
Chair Department of Health Sciences
Dr. Kudolo received his PhD from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London, England in biochemistry. For over 30 years, he has conducted funded research across 3 continents in the areas of hormones and drug action in the female reproductive tract, in animal models from rodents to non-human primates, such as the Vervet and Sykes monkeys and the baboon and conducted clinical trials in human subjects, in the areas ranging from reproduction to diabetes mellitus. His research interests include the effect of (1) herbal extracts, especially Ginkgo biloba extract, on the pancreas and platelets, and whole-body insulin resistance; (2) dietary supplements on the interpretation of diagnostic laboratory tests, (3) soy isoflavones on thyroid function, and the contribution of free radicals (and environmental factors) to the development of chemical tolerance and chronic diseases. He has expertise in laboratory medicine and forensic toxicology (in which has served as expert witness in forensic drug cases). Recently, Dr. Kudolo shifted his emphasis to teaching and administration. He believes his research experience helps him to be an effective teacher in the Medical Laboratory Sciences program, and directed the laboratory medicine course in the Physician Assistants program since its inception in 2000, was the sole instructor and director of the Graduate Toxicology Program and taught students in the Masters in Occupational Therapy and served on the dissertation committee across several school on our campus. Dr. Kudolo, is a UT Distinguished Teaching Professor and has received several teaching awards including UTHSCSA Presidential Teaching Award, the UT System Regents “Outstanding Teaching Award”, and the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award. Dr. Kudolo is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemistry, the Association of Clinical Scientists and the academy of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry. He is currently the Chair of the Department of Health Sciences in the School of Health Professions, which consists of the divisions of Respiratory Care and Medical Laboratory Sciences and the PhD Health Sciences program.
