Dr. Christian Welch completed his medical degree in 2009 with a Distinction in Research and remained at UTHSCSA to complete his residency in anesthesiology in 2013.
After a brief period with Tejas Anesthesia (San Antonio), Dr. Christian Welch decided to move to Connecticut and practice with EmCare Anesthesia covering the greater Hartford area. In the fall of 2014, he relocated back to Texas and joined STAR Anesthesia, working primarily within the Baptist Health System (BHS) providing coverage for general, vascular, OB and cardiac cases.
After becoming a partner in 2017, Dr. Christian Welch was placed at St. Lukes Hospital (BHS) to be site Chief and to lead the transition of STARs exclusive contract. During his tenure they also secured coverage of labor and delivery anesthesia. He was soon elected to the STAR Board. From September 2018 to March 2020 he served as the Perioperative Director for BHS, overseeing anesthesia services for the seven Tenet hospitals in San Antonio. In this capacity he worked closely with the Tenet CMO and the Medical Executive Board to develop policy and to ensure the safe delivery of anesthesia within the system.
In September 2019, STAR partnered with USAP and I became a member of the Clinical Governance Board (CGB) and in 2020 Dr. Christian Welch was elected Vice Chair. CGB leadership was responsible for overall clinical operations of the practice.
In 2022 Dr. Christian Welch decided to leave STAR/USAP and contracted with Essential Anesthesia Management, which recently procured the Christus Santa Rosa contract. As Director of Anesthesia for Christus Medical Center and Westover Hills, he worked closely with OR and hospital leadership to deliver safe anesthesia care.
On May 15, 2024 he assumed the position of Medical Director for the new UT KSP ASC. Working with a great team of CRNA's, he will be running four ORs and cases will primarily include orthopedics, urology, ENT and GI.
