Jia Liu, PhD, MSN, RN
Assistant Professor
Dr. Liu received her master’s in nursing administration, Ph.D. in Nursing, and Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a research focus on nursing informatics and quality of care. She completed her postdoctoral training in chronic disease self-management at UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing. Her research uses technology to address disparities in Hispanic or Latino older populations’ access to resources and support for chronic disease management by developing individual, interpersonal, and community levels of scalable, innovative, and practical strategies. Currently, her research aims to delve into the multi-faceted care needs of cancer patients and caregivers during chemotherapy and immunotherapy using an innovative mixed methods approach that integrates a theory-driven and evidence-based community-based participatory research strategy (Photovoice), which empowers health researchers to gain a compelling perspective by viewing the world from the standpoint of marginalized individuals who may be dealing with cultural sensitivity, language barriers, and unique psychosocial and socioeconomic needs.
