Department of Orthopaedics
Dr. Buttacavoli grew up in Miami Beach, Florida but had his first exposure to Texas when he attended Rice University on a Golf scholarship. After residency, he completed his Fellowship training in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Upon returning from Switzerland, Dr. Buttacavoli decided to enter private practice in Miami. After 2 years in Miami, he returned as staff to the same department where he once was a resident. He was excited to join the faculty of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio.
Dr. Buttacavoli's specific interests include hip and knee replacements as well as revisions of failed replacements. He has previous experience with patient specific implants, robotics, revision surgery, and the use of stem cells and biologics in treatment of hip and knee disorders. He's excited to help grow the Orthopaedic department and be at the forefront of hip and knee deformity and arthritis treatment. Dr. Buttacavoli joined UT Health San Antonio because he knew this would be the best place for him to make a lasting impact on the future of patient care.
Outside of his work in the clinic and hospital, he enjoys traveling with his wife. He enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf on the amateur circuit. His wife is a native of nearby New Braunfels, Texas. They look forward to building a family near her hometown. They are excited to join the UT Health San Antonio Department of Orthopaedics family.
