Dr. Wu joined UT Health San Antonio in 2022, after working as as a faculty member in the University of North Carolina System for 13 years. She is a mental health occupational therapist with more than 30 years of experience in psychiatric rehabilitation for mental illness and substance use disorders, first as a clinician and then as a faculty after receiving the PhD degree. Occupational therapy is the biggest kept secrete in today's behavioral health services- many people do not know occupational therapy practitioners have expertise to complement behavioral health services, and many people with mental illness or substance use disorders do not have access to occupational therapy services. Dr. Wu's goal is to make occupational therapy available to people with mental illness or substance use disorders. Her research work focuses on developing research evidence to support occupational therapy interventions in behavioral health. She is dedicated to preparing a competent and highly skilled occupational therapy workforce for behavioral health.
