Gail B Williams, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC

Gail B. Williams is Professor/Clinical in the School of Nursing at UT Health (formerly The University of Texas Health Science Center). For more than 20 years, Dr. Williams has taught in baccalaureate, masters and doctoral programs in nursing. Dr. Williams is an advanced practice nurse who has over 20 years experience as a clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric mental health nursing. She is Board Certified to practice as a clinical nurse specialist in adult psychiatric mental health nursing and has been the course director for NURS.6312: Advanced Mental Health Concepts (formerly NURS.6201: Advanced Mental Health Concepts and NURS.6101: Advanced Mental Health Concepts: Clinical Applications, NURS.6308) for the past nineteen years. She has served as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. 

Dr. Williams holds certification as a COI (Certified Online Instructor) through Learning Resource Network (LERN), River Fall, WI. In 2004, Dr. Williams successfully transitioned the Functional Minor in Teaching to the web. Dr. Williams responded to a call from the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) for online courses that could address the shortage of nurse educators. The Teaching Minor in web format (as developed by Williams) was selected and the School of Nursing was one of five institutions that offered online courses for graduate nursing students as part of an expanding SREB Electronic Campus. The Teaching Minor has been marketed to graduate nursing programs in the 16 SREB states and the District of Columbia. In 2005, Dr. Williams was recipient of the SREB Recognition for Significant Contributions to the Nurse Educator Consortium Initiative. 

Dr. Williams has been an active member of the International Association for Human Caring since 1999; serving as a Board Member from 2003-2006. 
She has been a member of the Nominating Committee and chaired the Nominating Committee from 2006-2008. She has served as Chair of the Fundraising Committee from 2006-2010. Dr. Williams was President of the International Association for Human Caring from 2010 to 2012. As Past President of the International Association for Human Caring she served an ex-officio member of the Leadership Succession Committee (2012-2013). Dr. Williams was the Planning Committee Chair of 32nd International Association for Human Caring Conference in 2011. Dr. Williams served as the Planning Committee Co-Chair of the 34th International Association for Human Caring Conference which was held in 2013. She also serves as a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal for Human Caring (IJHC). In the local community, Dr. Williams has served on the Board of Directors, Planned Parenthood of San Antonio and South Central Texas, San Antonio, TX. From 2003 to 2013 she has served on the Quality Management Committee, Planned Parenthood of San Antonio and South Central Texas. 

Her funded research has been in the area of interpersonal violence prevention. Dr. Williams was the recent recipient of the 2012 Regents? Outstanding Teaching Award. This prestigious award is offered in recognition of faculty members in the University of Texas System who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom performance and innovative in undergraduate instruction. The Regents` Outstanding Teaching Awards are the Board of Regents` highest honor.
