Kevin Voelker, JD, MN, RN

Assistant Professor/Clinical

Dr. Voelker first came to UT Health San Antonio in Fall 2017 as a part-time Simulation Specialist in the Center for Simulation and Innovation (CSI). Dr. Voelker joined the faculty team full-time as an Assistant Professor/ Clinical in the Fall of 2018, drawing on his extensive background in nursing clinical and management roles to guide and mentor students in Leadership & Management, Adult II, Accelerated Med/Surg and Transition to Nursing Practice Clinicals. Immediately prior to switching roles into full-time academia, Dr Voelker was a staff nurse in a 10-bed Trauma/Surgery Intensive Care Unit at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC), a Level 1 Trauma Centers. Dr Voelker initially obtained his BSN in 1984 and was selected for a commission in the US Army Nurse Corps. During his 20 years of service, he filled various clinical and administrative roles including staff and charge nurse, nurse manager, and supervisor. Dr. Voelker received his Master of Nursing (Critical Care) from the University of Washington in 1992. In order to pursue social justice issues, he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) from St. Mary’s University in 2008, passing the Texas Bar in 2009. He looks forward to training the next generation of nurse leaders!
