Rodolfo Villarreal-Calderon, MD, MS
Assistant Professor/Clinical
Dr. Rodolfo Villarreal-Calderon is a published, board-certified Hospitalist who joined UT Health San Antonio as an Assistant Professor/Clinical in July 2023. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology with a minor in German (graduating with High Honors) from the University of Montana in Missoula, MT in 2014 before going on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, VA in 2014. Dr. Villarreal-Calderon then completed his Internal Medicine residency at Boston University Medical Center in 2021 and his General Internal Medicine- Medical Education fellowship at Boston University School of Medicine in June 2023. He also holds a Master of Science in Health Professions Education from the Boston University Graduate Medical Sciences which he earned in 2023.
Dr. Villarreal-Calderon is the recipient of the BUMC "Resident Teaching Award" (2020), "Medical Student Teaching Award" (2018), "Center for Global Health Scholar Award in Medicine" (2017), the University of Montana College "Bertha Morton Undergraduate Research Award" (2012), ASIP "Minority Trainee Travel Award" (2011), and the Presidential Leadership Scholarship- Gold Level (2010).
Dr. Villarreal-Calderon published a book in December 2023 entitled "Word Meal", a collection of 99 poems and an 82-page short story entitled Get Well Soon!, a novella revolving around a patient admitted to the hospital. "Word Meal" is available on Amazon (paperback, Kindle, and Audible Audiobook) and Barnes & Noble® as an audiobook narrated by Dr. Villarreal-Calderon himself!
