Steven G Venticinque, M.D.
Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
Executive Vice Chair
Steven G. Venticinque, M.D., is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery and the Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at UT Health San Antonio. He also serves as the Director of Critical Care Medicine within the Department.
He received his medical doctorate from the University Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. He completed a bachelor’s in biology at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. His Internship in General Surgery was completed at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. His residency in Anesthesiology was completed at the San Antonio Uniformed Service Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC), in San Antonio. He then completed his fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at SAUSHEC.
Dr. Venticinque is board certified in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a Testamur in advance perioperative transesophageal echocardiography from the National Board of Echocardiography. He currently practices critical care medicine, cardiac anesthesiology, and anesthesiology for liver transplantation. His expansive career has included multiple academic leadership roles including Chief of Anesthesia of the Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio, the Program Director of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine fellowships at UT Health San Antonio and SAUSHEC, co-founder of the Trauma Institute of San Antonio (TRISAT) Critical Care training Consortium, and prior interim Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at UT Health. Dr. Venticinque also serves as a board examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology.
He has special interests in medical device development and commercialization, medical illustration, the anesthesia workstation, and perioperative ultrasonography. He is the co-founder of a medical technology start-up company that is driving technologies he developed at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Venticinque has received several honors and awards in his career including the Annual Presidential Clinical Excellence Award at UT Health, and the Annual Paul W. Myers Award from the U.S. Air Force Association. Dr. Venticinque Served in the United States Air Force as an anesthesiologist and critical care air transport team leader. He also served in the United States Navy where he flew on electronic reconnaissance aircraft.
