Claudia Suemoto, MD, PhD, MSc
Professor
Claudia K. Suemoto, MD, PhD, is a physician-scientist specializing in neuropathology and neuroepidemiology. She earned her medical degree and PhD in Pathology from the University of São Paulo, followed by postdoctoral training in epidemiology and biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She currently serves as a faculty member at the University of São Paulo and directs the Biobank for Aging Studies. Her work integrates population-based studies, advanced statistical modeling, and clinical insight to examine dementia risk, cognitive resilience, and health disparities, with particular attention to cardiovascular and socioeconomic factors.
Dr. Suemoto has led major international research initiatives and published extensively in high-impact journals, including JAMA Neurology, Lancet Global Health, Nature Aging, and PLOS Medicine. Her research has informed public health strategies for dementia prevention across Latin America and contributed to national guidelines for dementia diagnosis. She is actively engaged in mentoring trainees across all levels and participates in global collaborations, including the LATAM FINGERS network. In addition to her research and teaching roles, she maintains a clinical practice in geriatrics and dementia care, providing ongoing insight into patient needs and disease progression.
