Amith Skandhan, MD, SFHM, FACP
Associate Professor/Clinical
Dr. Amith Skandhan is a published, board-certified Hospitalist who joined UT Health San Antonio as an Associate Professor/Clinical in September 2023. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Vinayaka Mission's Medical College in Pondicherry, India in 2003 before going on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, PA in 2011 (serving as Chief Resident from 2010 to 2011). Dr. Skandhan has also completed post-graduate certifications in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as well as Decision Science through the University of Texas in Austin.
Dr. Skandhan is a member of several professional organizations including the Association of Chiefs & Leaders of General Internal Medicine, American College of Physicians, Society of Hospital Medicine, American Medical Association, American Association of Physician Leadership, and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians. He became a Fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine in July 2021 and, in April 2024, initiated a brand-new local chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine- the "Bluebonnet Chapter"- in San Antonio, TX.
Dr. Skandhan is the recipient of the Outstanding Service in Hospital Medicine Award (2022), Best Outstanding Chapter- Wiregrass Chapter of SHM (2022), Platinum Ribbon- Wiregrass Chapter of SHM (2022), Most Engaged Chapter Leader Award (2021), and Best Outstanding Chapter- Wiregrass Chapter of SHM (2020) among many others. He was also recipient of the AMWA "Exceptional Mentor Award" (2024-2025) and was a nominee for the AMWA "Dr. Larry Zack Man of Good Conscience Award", which highlights his contributions as part of their recognition efforts.
