Adriana Segura, DDS

Professor, Emeritus

Dr. Segura received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Dentistry, in 1990. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Oral Science from the University of Iowa in 1993. Her postgraduate training includes a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Iowa (1993) and a Certificate in General Dentistry from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Miami, Florida (1991).

Dr. Segura is a board-certified pediatric dentist, having received certification from the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry in 2003.

Her academic career includes a long-standing commitment to education, patient care, and leadership. From 1994 to 1998, she served as Assistant Professor and Director of the General Practice Residency Program in the Department of Hospital Dentistry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She continued in that capacity as a Fellow Associate and Director of the General Practice Residency Program from 1993 to 1994.

In 1999, Dr. Segura joined UT Health San Antonio, where she was appointed Associate Professor in multiple departments: Pediatric Dentistry, Pediatrics, and General Dentistry. She also served as Director of the Pre-doctoral Division in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Over the years, she played a key role in mentoring dental students and pediatric dentistry residents and served as Director of the Preceptorship Program, sponsoring and supervising preceptors in a clinical setting.

Dr. Segura has been widely recognized for her contributions to academic leadership and dental education. Her honors include:

  • Administration Leadership Award – UT Health San Antonio Faculty Senate, 2019
  • Faculty of the Year Award – San Antonio District Dental Society, 2019
  • Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Fellow – Drexel University College of Medicine, 2016

These accolades are just a few among many that reflect her dedication to advancing pediatric dentistry and shaping future generations of oral health professionals.
