Dr. Rose is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialized expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He provides both operative and non-operative care with the goal of restoring function and alleviating pain.
His clinical interests include complex trauma and reconstruction of the entire upper extremity, addressing injuries to nerves, tendons, ligaments, and fractures. Dr. Rose’s elective practice encompasses arthroplasty (joint replacement) procedures for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and digits, as well as the management of nerve compressions and arthritis.
A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Rose earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of New Mexico. He then completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he gained extensive experience in upper extremity trauma at the Parkland Trauma Center. During his residency, Dr. Rose was appointed Chief Resident of the Orthopaedic Surgery Department and was honored with the G. Truett James Award for Excellence in Training.
Following residency, Dr. Rose was selected as the Littler Eaton Hand Traveling Fellow at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases—the sole recipient of this distinction for that year. His fellowship training included time at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and the Hand Institute of New Zealand, as well as completion of a Microsurgery Course at Columbia University in New York.
Dr. Rose is actively engaged in clinical research focusing on upper extremity surgery and opioid use. He participates in randomized controlled trials, and his research has been presented at both national and international scientific meetings.
Since his appointment at UT Health San Antonio, Dr. Rose has received numerous accolades, including the Fred G. Corley Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award, the Texas Rising Young Doctors Award(multiple years), and recognition among the Best San Antonio Doctors.
Dr. Rose currently serves as the Orthopaedic Residency Program Director, Vice Chair of Education, and Chief of Hand Surgery at UT Health San Antonio.
