Saul Rivas, MD, MSPH
Associate Professor/Clinical
Dr. Saul D. Rivas holds a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health from New Mexico State University and a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. He began his career in public health as the Regional Epidemiologist for Regions 9/10 at the Texas Department of State Health Services. Afterward, he pursued a medical degree at Texas A&M College of Medicine, followed by residency training at the University of New Mexico, where he also served as Administrative Chief Resident.
Dr. Rivas has a strong academic and clinical background. He was a faculty member at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine (UTRGV), where he made significant contributions as the inaugural Clerkship Director and Medical Director of the Healthy Mujeres Team. This initiative provided vital women’s health outreach and care to underserved populations using a mobile clinic.
A recognized leader in medical education, Dr. Rivas was the 2019-2021 Gant/ABOG Fellow at the National Academies of Medicine. His excellence in teaching and leadership has earned him several accolades, including the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award, the SASGOG Faculty Award, and the UTRGV Team Excellence Award.
Dr. Rivas joined UT Health San Antonio, Long School of Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2025, where he continues to make a profound impact in the field of public health, medical education, and healthcare delivery.
