Jolly M Punchamannil, DNP, CMSRN, NE-BC

Assistant Professor/Clinical

Dedicated nursing educator with a wealth of clinical expertise and competency in diverse population, and cultures. Recognized by students as a motivating and kind instructor, with high expectations and goals, who is approachable and available. Life- long learner with identified top strengths as learner, connectedness, empathy, activator, and context. Believes that the students bring strength and experience and support open communication to self- identify areas that needs improvements. Consider good relationship between teacher and student, and between students as important factor in promoting learning. I expect the students to follow the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the current best practices to promote the quality of care.

    Dr. Punchamannil teaches in the 5th, 7th and 8th-semester undergraduate students. Her nursing experience includes a Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery from India. Dr. Punchamannil worked with people of different cultures in three different states in India for about seven years. She has also worked in three different Mediterranean Countries for a total of 17 years. Prior to joining UT Health San Antonio, Dr. Punchamannil worked in bedside nursing for 10 years in San Antonio. She has been in academic for 6 years. She is interested in the following global health activities:

    1. Understanding health disparities
    2. Understanding how the low- and middle-income countries are addressing their health despite the economical disadvantages
    3. Understanding the role of public health in improving health conditions
    4. Examining the influence of culture in health practices.
    5. Improving the healthcare through education on preventive measures and riskier health habits
    6. Impact of pesticides in human health
    7. Impact of radiation (from bombings) on human health- short term and long term.
