Ramin S. Poursani, MD, is a Family Physician and Professor/Clinical in the Department of Family and Community Medicine where he serves as Chief of Clinical Operations for the University Health System (UHS) for Family and Community Medicine. Dr. Poursani oversees all the department’s clinical activities including those in the Family Health Center, University Hospital Family Medicine Hospital Service, the Juvenile Detention Center Clinic, and the Prenatal Clinic at the Salinas Clinic. Dr. Poursani cares for patients and teaches Family Medicine residents; psychology interns; and medical, podiatry, and pharmacy students in the Family Health Center at the University Health Center-Downtown on the Robert B. Green Campus and in the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at University Hospital. Dr. Poursani, with his specialized training in musculoskeletal disorders, directs the Bone and Joint Clinic in the Family Health Center. In this clinic he cares for people who have bone and joint disorders like arthritis and carpel tunnel syndrome and performs injections of various types to ease his patients’ pain and prevent inflammation. Teaching Family Medicine residents the principles required to manage patients with these disorders is one of his passions. Dr. Poursani actively serves on committees in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, medical school, and University Health System. In his department, Dr. Poursani serves on the Residency Core Faculty, Financial, Executive, Residency Leadership, and Residency Selection Committees. At the Family Health Center, Dr. Poursani represents the department on multiple Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) Program Projects that total over $1.5 million. In the medical school, Dr. Poursani serves on the Clinical Safety and Quality Improvement Committee that oversees patient safety and quality improvement courses at UT Health San Antonio and manages quality improvement projects that are conducted in the Clinical Safety and Effectiveness (CS&E) Course and the Population Health Management Committee that is ensuring UT Health San Antonio meets the standards for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). In the University Health System, he serves on the Physician/Health System Forum, the Quality/Risk Management Committee, the Ambulatory Medical Director‘s Council and the Ambulatory Policy Committee where he represents the department.
