Jennifer Sharpe Potter, PhD, MPH

Vice President for Research

Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences

Expertise: prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, chronic pain, dissemination and implementation of evidence-based practice, population health, clinical trials

Jennifer Sharpe Potter, PhD, MPH, is the Vice President for Research and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavior Sciences. In 2008, Dr. Potter joined UT Health San Antonio from Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital. She completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship and research fellowship at Harvard Medical School/McLean Hospital. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of Georgia and her Master of Public Health from Emory University.

  • Research & Grants

    Dr. Potters research and related activities focus on the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders, with emphasis on opioid use disorders and chronic pain in civilian and military populations. She is a Principal Investigator of the Big South/West Node of the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network and Director of the Texas Medication for Opioid Use Disorder Initiative with support from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Dr. Potter served as the National Project Director for the CTN Prescription Opioid Addiction Treatment Study (POATS), the largest multisite clinical trial conducted to examine treatment of prescription opioid dependence.
