John D. Olson, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. John Olson graduated from the University of Colorado and received his Medical
Degree from Georgetown University. Following his residency in Pathology and
Laboratory Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, he received his PhD
degree from the University of Minnesota. He is currently Professor Emeritus in
the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of University of Texas
Health in San Antonio TX.

Dr. Olson was the original Chair of EQATH (External Quality Assurance in Thrombosis
and Hemostasis), serving as its Chair from 2005 through 2017. In 2017, when the
Charter for EQATH was approved, Dr. Olson began his service as its Executive
Secretary.  Dr. Olson’s academic career has focused on issues of
hemostasis and thrombosis as well as quality management in the laboratory. In
addition to his department, he has provided continuing service to the
College of American Pathologists as member and chair of its Coagulation
Committee, member of its Continuous Compliance Committee and member of its
Council on Accreditation.
