Tony Ogburn, MD
Professor/Clinical
Tony Ogburn, MD, earned his BS and MD from the University of Florida before completing his OB/GYN residency at the University of California-Irvine. After residency, he spent six years with the Indian Health Service in Gallup, New Mexico, where he served as Chief of OB/GYN and Surgical Services. He then joined the faculty at the University of New Mexico, where he held multiple leadership positions over 18 years, including Residency Program Director, General OB/GYN Division Chief, Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education, and Chief Medical Officer at UNM-Sandoval Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Ogburn later moved to South Texas, where he spent eight years as Professor and Founding Chair of OB/GYN at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a newer medical school serving the US-Mexico border region. In February 2024, he joined the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio as a Professor of OB/GYN.
Beyond his institutional roles, Dr. Ogburn has been actively involved with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), serving in multiple capacities, including NM Section Chair, District 8 Legislative Chair, Chair of the Committee on AI/AN Affairs, member of the Underserved Committee, and Chair of the Council on Residency Education in OB/GYN (CREOG). He currently serves on the ACOG Program Committee. Additionally, he has been an oral examiner for the American Board of OB/GYN and is a current member and Vice Chair of the ACGME OB/GYN Review Committee.
A founding board member and former president of the Society of Academic Specialists in General OB/GYN, Dr. Ogburn specializes in General OB/GYN with a focus on preventive services, complex family planning, and expanding access to care for underserved populations
