Dr. Natalie Maples is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Division of Community Recovery, Research, and Training at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. Maples has a doctorate in Public Health and a master’s degree in clinical psychology.  Dr. Maples has established herself as a leader in behavioral health workforce development, focusing on advancing evidence-based and promising practices in mental health and substance use care.

As principal investigator on numerous projects, Dr. Maples oversees initiatives aimed at disseminating and implementing behavioral health interventions to improve outcomes across diverse populations. Her work emphasizes innovative approaches to training and service delivery for individuals facing complex challenges, including those frequently hospitalized for mental illness, medically vulnerable populations, and older adults.

Dr. Maples has trained thousands of clinicians nationally and internationally through her work as director of large-scale training infrastructures. She is also recognized for her expertise in structured interviewing, clinical assessment, and creating instructional courses that enhance learning and fidelity in clinical research. Dr. Maples has authored and co-authored numerous publications, abstracts, and presentations. Her commitment to translating research into practice and building sustainable systems of care continues to make a lasting impact on the behavioral health field.
