David R Maguire, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dr. Maguire is a behavioral pharmacologist with undergraduate and graduate degrees in experimental psychology and postdoctoral training in pharmacology. He has over 20 years of experience conducting preclinical research focusing on understanding the causes and consequences of substance abuse and discovery of novel, safe, and effective treatments for drug abuse and overdose. Current projects focus on characterizing interactions between opioids such as fentanyl and non-opioid drugs such as cannabinoids, psychedelics, and alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists (e.g., xylazine).
