Ghiara Lugo-Diaz, MD

Dr. Lugo Diaz is a dedicated physician with a strong commitment to academic medicine, women's health, and health equity. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus in 2015, and completed her medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in 2019.

 

She went on to complete her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Puerto Rico in 2023, where she served as Academic Chief Resident. During her training, she was recognized with the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) Award for Outstanding Resident in Gynecologic Oncology and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society.

 

Following residency, Dr. Lugo Diaz completed a fellowship in Lower Anogenital Screening and Treatment (LAST) at Emory University in Atlanta. There, she received advanced training in the evaluation and management of cervical and anal dysplasia, as well as other complex conditions affecting the lower female genital tract.

 

Driven by her passion for education and community service, she returned to Puerto Rico to serve as a full-time Assistant Professor at the University of Puerto Rico. She is currently pursuing a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology.

 

Dr. Lugo Diaz is particularly interested in improving care for underserved and minority populations. Her research focuses on gynecologic cancer disparities, cancer prevention, endometrial cancer, and endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia.

 

She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO), and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP).
