James Z Keeton, MD

Fellowship Associate Program Director
Dr. James Keeton is a native San Antonian, born and raised. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Abilene Christian University. Then, he attended Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and graduated with a Degree in Medicine and a certificate of Medical Ethics and Humanities. Subsequently, Dr. Keeton completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. He completed his Cardiology fellowship as well as serving as chief fellow here at UT Health San Antonio. He is a non-invasive cardiologist with experience in general cardiology, echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography, stress testing, nuclear cardiology, preventive cardiology, and valvular disease. He is passionate about education and currently serves as the Associate Program Director of the Cardiology fellowship, a position held since 2023. Outside of medicine, he enjoys watching the Cowboys (when they are winning), Astros and Spurs as well as golfing, exploring the outdoors and spending time with his family, including his wife and two sons.
