UT Health San Antonio

Ruben Jimenez, DNP, MSN, RN, CNL-BC

Assistant Professor/Clinical

With over fifteen years of clinical experience, I have had opportunities to work in various capacities of critical care (ICU) settings, management and leadership roles and undergraduate and graduate nursing education.

I hold a DNP degree with a focus on curriculum development, simulation, online pedagogy, and evaluating outcomes.  As a board-certified clinical nurse leader and with my extensive clinical, leadership and management background, my teaching skills have been greatly enriched.
As a nurse educator, I have utilized my advanced expertise to teach nursing students and practicing nurses the knowledge and skills necessary to attain higher education degrees or certifications.  I have been a part of designing evidence-based education programs, implementing teaching methods to support desired learning outcomes for students, and providing positive critical feedback.  My educational credentials and several years of clinical registered nursing expertise have prepared me to be an impactful educator.

My research emphasizes faculty/student mentorship programs and research in student retention. Through mentoring students and engaging in innovative research, my commitment to enabling inclusiveness in the school setting and nursing resources arises mainly from my experiences and interactions throughout my educational journey.  As my research concentrates on student mentorship programs in student retention at the university level, I have a long-term initiative towards the viewpoint of significantly reducing instabilities in health care in addition to promoting equity in my profession. At UT Health San Antonio, I am excited to continue working to advance nursing education and research. I am passionate about creating a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, empathy, and the application of evidence-based practice.
