Sarah Horn, MD
Assistant Professor/Clinical
Sarah Horn, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurology who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of patients with movement disorders, including botulinum toxin injections and management of deep brain stimulators. She began exploring science in a basic context in college, working as a summer research assistant in the biochemistry laboratory at Trinity University. She then attended medical school at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, where the neurologists’ craft of making bedside diagnoses, coupled with the anticipation of upcoming major scientific breakthroughs in the field, inspired her to become a movement disorders specialist. As an Edmond J. Safra Fellow in Movement Disorders at the University of Pennsylvania, she participated in multiple clinical research projects investigating patients’ experience with Parkinson’s disease. With an interest in comparative effectiveness research, she retrospectively analyzed the effectiveness of quetiapine versus pimavanserin for psychosis associated with Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies and currently is principal investigator for an actively enrolling pragmatic clinical trial funded by the Alzheimer’s Association studying the long term effects of these medications in a real-world setting. She has served as site sub-investigator and principal investigator for numerous clinical trials and was selected as a Parkinson Study Group investigator. She sees patients through the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Program, is a site investigator for multiple clinical trials, is program director of the movement disorders fellowship, remains active in teaching medical students and neurology residents, and has multiple ongoing clinical research projects designed to address unknowns encountered in clinical practice.
