Nobuo Horikoshi, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dr. Horikoshi studies the mechanistic connection between aging, cellular and/or mitochondrial metabolism, and carcinogenesis, focusing on the sirtuin gene family. He studies whether the energy generating fatty acid β-oxidation can function as a tumor suppressor pathway; yet the potential pathways for prevention and/or treatment of cancer remains unrealized. He will test whether ACSS1, the most critical enzyme that directs fatty acid β-oxidation, is disrupted in aggressive breast cancer leading a loss of normal energy production and a breast cancer tumor permissive phenotype.
