William D Hendricson, M.A., M.S.

Bill Hendricson has been an educational consultant in health professions education since 1973. After retiring from full-time work at UTHSA in 2017, he currently has a part-time position with the Dental Public Health Division in the School of Dentistry where he serves as the Program Evaluator for a Primary Care Dentistry for South Texas Postdoctoral Training Grant.
From 2005 to 2017, he was Assistant Dean, Education and Director of Faculty Development at the UTHSA School of Dentistry where he directed the Distinction in Dental Education Program for students, TExAS (Teaching Excellence and Academic Skills) Fellowship for faculty, the RIDE (Research in Dental Education) Fellowship for faculty and served as curriculum director for two HRSA Faculty Development Grants. During 2013-2017, he directed the Dental School’s conversion from a departmentally based to an integrated, systems-based curriculum. From 1998-2005, he chaired the UTHSA Division of Educational Research and Development (ERD) comprised of 10 educational, evaluation and information technology specialists, which provided curriculum, teaching and research support for UTHSA schools. AT ERD, he was director or co-director of the University Teaching Excellence Course (UTEC), also known as the Teaching Skills Course for Health Professions Educators, for 25 years.
Bill has been an educational consultant for 28 organizations including the American College of Emergency Physicians, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, American Academy of Family Practice, Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, the Commission of Dental Accreditation, the American Dental Education Association, the Combined Federal Services Educators Conference and the Academy for Academic Leadership (AAL). At AAL, he directed the Institute for Teaching and Learning from 2005-2016, a 6-day academic career enhancement program completed by 600 health professions faculty. From 1995-2004, he was principle instructor for a year-long fellowship conducted by the American Academy of Family Physicians and the North American Primary Care Research Group for primary care physicians to enhance grant writing capacity. Overall, Bill has served as a consultant for 209 universities and organizations, and served as training or evaluation director on 28 NIH or HRSA grants. From 1999 to 2009, he was Associate Editor of the Journal of Dental Education. For his own scholarship, Bill has published more than 100 articles and chapters on curriculum, assessment, teaching, and scholarship.
