Dr. Maria Isabel Hawayek completed her undergraduate education, medical degree, and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Puerto Rico. During her residency, she was recognized with a Medical Student Teaching Award for her dedication to mentoring and educating the next generation of physicians.
Throughout her training, Dr. Hawayek developed a passion for clinical research and has published and presented abstracts at both national and international conferences. Her research has focused on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, placental pathology, fetal growth restriction, and placenta accreta spectrum. She is dedicated to advancing evidence-based care, promoting patient education, and ensuring that women have the information and support needed to make confident, informed decisions about their health. She is also committed to improving maternal outcomes and addressing disparities in maternal healthcare through research, education, and compassionate clinical care.
Dr. Hawayek is currently pursuing fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She looks forward to contributing to advances in high-risk obstetrics while providing individualized, patient-centered care to women and their families.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hawayek enjoys hiking, dancing, traveling, and cooking—especially baking desserts. She loves exploring new places, spending time outdoors, and sharing homemade treats with family and friends, bringing the same curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm to her personal life that she brings to caring for her patients.
