Lacy Harville, MD, FACS
Professor/Interim Chair
Dr. Harville is an adult cardiac surgeon. He earned his medical degree in 1985 from the University of Tennessee, School of Medicine, in Memphis, Tennessee. He then matched into the General Surgery residency program at our very own UT Health San Antonio. After graduating from UT Health in 1992, Dr. Harville went on to join the East Tennessee Cardiovascular Surgery Group as a Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.
While in private practice, Dr. Harville’s commitment to excellence led him to become instrumental in the development of Heart Pro III, a teaching application for cardiovascular education. This innovative tool garnered widespread recognition, earning several awards, including the Apple Keynote Address and the coveted title of App of the Year.
After 24 years of honing his craft at East Tennessee Cardiovascular Surgery Group and playing a key role in developing one of the dominant Cardiothoracic groups in the Southeast, he transitioned to an academic role as an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, Section Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery and Surgical Director of the CVICU at University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Harville eventually found his way back to UT Health and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department in June of 2024 and becoming Interim Chair in September of 2024.
