Michael T. Halpern, Ph.D., M.D., M.P.H., is Professor and Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Health Services Administration at UT School of Public Health San Antonio. Dr. Halpern is a respected public health leader, catalyst for change, and visionary researcher with an exemplary career spanning national institutions, academia, and private sector research organizations. He is also renowned for driving applied research initiatives that inform policymaking, receiving funding for critical healthcare research, and advocating for access to high-quality, patient-centered medical care.

Dr. Halpern received his MD and PhD through the University of Michigan’s Medical Scientist Training Program; he also received an MPH in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining UTSPHSA, served as the Medical Officer at the Healthcare Assessment Research Branch, Healthcare Delivery Research Program, Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, National Cancer Institute, U.S. National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. He also previously served as a Collaborating Member of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Principal Scientist at RTI International, and Strategic Director for Health Services Research of the American Cancer Society.
