Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) represents a significant and growing global health challenge, characterized by substantial inter-individual variability in disease onset, progression, and severity. An emerging and underexplored determinant of this heterogeneity is aging, which may function as a critical predisposing “first hit,” priming the liver for heightened susceptibility to alcohol-induced injury. My research is centered on elucidating the mechanistic interplay between aging and ALD, with a particular focus on how age-associated alterations in hepatic biology accelerate disease progression and worsen clinical outcomes.

To address this, we employ an integrative and multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced bioinformatics, molecular biology, and physiologically relevant mouse models. By bridging data-driven discovery with experimental validation, our work aims to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding how aging reshapes hepatic physiology in the context of alcohol exposure. Ultimately, the goal is to uncover novel mechanistic insights and therapeutic targets, paving the way for more precise, age-informed strategies in the prevention and treatment of alcohol-associated liver disease.
