Peter Andrew Guarnero, PhD, RN, MSc

Associate Professor/Clinical

I am an Assistant Professor on the Clinical Track in the School of Nursing. I am course coordinator for Nurs3205 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing: Theoretical Foundations. As such I develop material that is relevant to the current state of psychiatric nursing. I also guide groups of students in Nurs3206 Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing: Clinical Foundations. I provide the students with an experience that challenges previously held beliefs about mental illness, how to interact with patients and how to advocate for the most vulnerable. I currently serve as a Faculty Co-Advisor for the UT Health San Antonio PRIDE, the LGBTQI student group. The group is open to medical, nursing, and other students at the UT Health San Antonio. As Co-Advisor I provide guidance and support for all student but most especially for gender and sexual minority students. As Director of Nursing at the Pride Community Clinic, I guide the students in providing quality nursing care for gender and sexual minority clients. I have served as a resource for groups that are working with LGBTQI persons in the community.
