Marvin A Gonzalez Quiroz, MD, MSc, Ph.D.

Dr. Marvin Gonzalez-Quiroz is a trained physician specializing in Occupational Health and Epidemiology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, focusing on occupational kidney disease among young populations in Nicaragua, and holds a postdoctoral degree from University College London. Dr. Gonzalez-Quiroz is an active member of various professional organizations, including the Central American Program on Health, Work, and the Environment (SALTRA), the International Commission on Occupational Health, and the International Society of Nephrologists. He also serves on the steering committee for the Epidemiology of eGFR in Low- and Middle-Income Populations – Rationale and Core Protocol for the Disadvantaged Population eGFR Epidemiology Study (DEGREE protocol). As a founding member and Co-Chair of the Board of the Consortium for the Epidemic of Nephropathy in Central America and Mexico (CENCAM), Dr. Gonzalez-Quiroz plays a pivotal role in addressing kidney disease epidemics. His research primarily focuses on community-based environmental and occupational exposure assessments, heat stress, dehydration, and work-related chronic diseases. Over the past nine years, he has spearheaded a community-based prospective cohort study among young adults at risk of Chronic Kidney Disease of undetermined cause (CKDu) in Nicaragua. Additionally, he has extensive experience in research projects related to CKDu, hearing loss, and resilience to volcanic emissions, with funding from NIH, the Colt Foundation, and the Medical Research Council.
