Dr. Mark Goldberg is Professor of Neurology at UT San Antonio and a stroke neurologist and translational neuroscientist. He leads the multi-institutional Neurorepair Lab Group, which studies the biological mechanisms that enable neural repair and recovery after stroke and other forms of brain injury, with an emphasis on neuroplasticity and regeneration of injured neural circuits. His laboratory welcomes trainees from the Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering Graduate Programs. His collaborative research includes the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases, the Center for Precision Medicine, and the MATRIX AI Consortium. He is a founding member and past chair of the Lone Star Stroke Research Consortium, a state-funded program advancing collaborative clinical stroke research across Texas. He currently chairs the American Heart Association’s national Committee on Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery.

Before coming to San Antonio in 2021, Dr. Goldberg was Professor and Chair of Neurology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and served as Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement, where he helped build the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute. From 1991 to 2010, he was on the faculty of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he founded and directed the Hope Center for Neurological Disorders. His research program has received continuous NIH support for more than three decades, and he has led individual research, center, program, and training grants from the NIH and other funding agencies.
