Janelle Flores, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

Janelle Beth Flores, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the School of Health Professions at the University of Texas San Antonio- Health Science Center. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Houston, her master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Texas Woman’s University, a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience from The University of Texas at San Antonio. As a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist, Flores has clinical experience in home health, public school, and university clinic settings.

Flores’ research focuses on advancing evidence-based educational and clinical practices to improve outcomes for bilingual learners. Her research examines pre-referral, referral, assessment, and clinical decision-making for bilingual children, with an emphasis on promoting equitable, evidence-based assessment and decision-making practices across educational and clinical settings. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and implementation science, she seeks to translate research into practical tools and resources that support educators, speech-language pathologists, other practitioners, and the communities they serve.

As an educator and researcher, Flores is committed to preparing the next generation of speech-language pathologists with the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality, evidence-based, and linguistically responsive services to bilingual children and their families. Her teaching, research, and clinical experience collectively inform her commitment to bridging the gap between research and practice.
