I have been an RN for 31 years. I have vast experience in clinical skills and knowledge. I also guest lecture in Pediatric didactics. I have been the UT Health, School of Nursing liaison for Vision & Hearing Screening Services for the Department of Health & Human Services in Austin, TX since 2010. I serve as a committee member for the bone marrow transplant unit on the Hospital Operating Board for the new UT Health Multispecialty & Research Hospital (MSRH). I served for 2 terms on COUS and APG committees. I serve on the Faculty Governance Committee for the UT Faculty Senate. I have attended Simulation Workshops and I perform Simulation for the undergraduate students. I believe my strengths and expertise are in the clinical setting and working with nursing students. Curriculum Development
- 2023 Certificate of Completion in recognition of completing the CE Activity entitled “8th Annual Cultural Inclusion Conference 2023.” This new information will enhance my teaching in Diversity, Cultural, and Social Inequity.
- 2023 Certificate of Completion of The Simulation Workshop and Open House: Simulation 101, Presented by Dr. Julie Peterson and Braulio Amezaga, MA. This new information will Enhance my clinical teaching using new methods in Simulation Technology.
- 2023 For ABSN DMIII- 4533, I developed a new skills lab procedure in the CSI for the ABSN students. I also developed a Notebook Guide for the CSI staff to follow to set up the lab. I believe it was a big success. I believe students learn if offered different ways to learn. I presented a mini lecture including a video, then a demonstration. The students did a return-demonstration to assess their skills. Although, it went well, I think we could use more time. Students say they learn better if presented in person instead of Online Modules.
- 2022 With the help and support of Dr. Marilyn Oermann from Duke University, I Created a Vision & Hearing Screening Educational Podcast. The podcast is to help other undergraduate students and faculty from other Colleges and Universities learn how to teach this type of unique and novel Pediatric education and create an opportunity for community service activities off Campus. The title of the Podcast is “Certifying Prelicensure Students in Vision and Hearing Screenings This Podcast is located on the Apple or Google Website: under “Nurse Educators Tips for Teaching.”
Research Projects
- 2021-Present, Research project in a publication of a current event in Texas. I am researching the unaccompanied immigrant children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border and all the ramifications that are associated with the risk of travel, arrival, and future for these children.
- 2017-Present, Practice Project, Developing new practice in collaboration with military, children and families in military schools. Performing vision, hearing and scoliosis screenings to meet Texas State School requirements. I want to focus to be connecting UT Health with our Military Community in San Antonio (Families and Children). I think this would incorporate my specialty in Pediatrics and the fact that I am Liaison between Austin (Dept of V&H) and UT Health, School of Nursing. In addition, would provide professional community activities for our undergraduate students.
Teaching Projects
- 2023 For ABSN DMIII- 4533, This new project was Dr. Lippe’s new idea for 4533. She wanted all the Spring ABSN skills labs (Adult, OB, and Pediatrics) to be face-to-face (in person). I developed a new skills lab presentation in the CSI for students to learn in person. I also developed a Notebook Guide for the CSI staff and faculty to follow to set up the lab. I believe it was a big success. I believe students learn better if it’s in person. They also learn If There Is a variety of learning styles. I offered several learning techniques to keep students Engaged. I presented a mini lecture including a video, then a demonstration. The students did A return demonstration check-off was used to assess their skills. The students said they learn Better in person instead of online modules. Although it went well, we could have used more Time.
- 2022-Present I developed a Vision & Hearing Screening Educational National Podcast with the help of Dr. Marilyn Oermann, PhD from Duke University. This is a unique curriculum educational learning project for nursing students in Pediatrics used for Community Service. You can find the Podcast on Apple and Google Podcast on “Nurse Educator Tips for Teaching” Feb 5, 2023. It is titled: “Certifying Pre-licensure Students in Vision & Hearing Screenings.”
