Dr. Rodolfo A. Estrada, MD, FCCP is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, specializing in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care.

Dr. Estrada serves as Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program, where he leads clinical research, contributing book chapters and publishing in high-impact journals such as JAMA, CHEST, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Pulmonary Circulation. He is a principal investigator in multiple clinical trials and has been selected for membership in several prestigious professional networks—including the CHEST Pulmonary Vascular Network, the ATS Pulmonary Circulation Assembly, and the PVRI LATAM Task Force.

Since taking leadership of the program in 2023, Dr. Estrada has expanded pulmonary hypertension services by over 35%, overseeing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care. He is deeply committed to education at all levels—providing mentorship and instruction to residents, fellows, nurses, advanced practice providers, patients, and community clinicians. His teaching spans clinical settings, grand rounds, community engagement, and international invited lectures. He is a frequent speaker at global meetings, including those organized by the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute (PVRI), the Latin American Thoracic Association (ALAT), American Thoracic Society (ATS), and the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST).

From 2019 to 2022, Dr. Estrada directed the Thoracic Outpatient Services at University Health, a UT Health San Antonio affiliate. He also served as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, where he led the Clinician Educator Track from 2022 to 2024.

Dr. Estrada was elected Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians in 2022 and is an alumnus of the Executive Development Program for Emerging Health Leaders (2022–2023 cohort) at the UTSA College of Business. He has been named a “Top Doctor” by San Antonio Magazine and recognized as an outstanding educator with multiple Teacher of the Year awards.

Born and raised in Guatemala, Dr. Estrada earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Universidad de San Carlos in 2010. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Jacobi Medical Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UT Health San Antonio
