Carlos R. Esquivel, MD, FACS, FAAOA

Dr. Carlos R Esquivel, a San Antonio native, is a Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at UT Health San Antonio. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. With 35 years of experience, Dr. Esquivel is board certified in Neurotology, Otolaryngology, and is a Fellow of American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Dr. Esquivel served the United States military for 30 years with his final assignment as the Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Defense (DoD) Hearing Center of Excellence (HCE). At the HCE, he led clinical and translational research focused on improving auditory care and outcomes for service members and veterans. He has been the principal investigator and/or senior contributor on multiple DoD and National Institute of Health funded research projects supporting auditory and vestibular rehabilitation device innovation. Dr. Esquivel contributed to the development of clinical practice guidelines used throughout the Military Health System. At UT Health San Antonio, his practice is focused on hearing restoration that includes cochlear implants, diseases of ear, vestibular disorders, and lateral skull base pathology.
