Yunuen Contreras Rios, B.D.S.

I am a motivated dentist with an Advanced Education in General Dentistry certificate from the University of Texas Health San Antonio.  I possess a strong work ethic and commitment to tasks. I completed my BDS at the University of Veracruz followed by 1 year of social service as a General Practitioner to the community in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz during this professional service, I received a special award, “Road to Excellence 2003”, from the Hospital of Veracruz.  This award is only for dentists who belong to this institution and is recognized for outstanding service achievements. I later transitioned into the private practice of dentistry in Mexico. Upon moving to San Antonio in 2008, I joined the UTHSA AEGD staff, eventually being designated as Senior Assistant in the AEGD program.  I coordinated operations logistics for AEGD and Faculty Practice clinics in this position.  This required considering both the specific procedures to be performed and the scheduling processes for both clinics. 

During the onset of the COVID crisis, I reorganized operatories, instructed and coordinated protocols with AEGD residents and assistants, thus enabling the AEGD Clinic to remain open and serve the San Antonio community during the lockdown.  I also trained the AEGD and Faculty Practice assistants' team to assist in advanced and complex surgeries.  I have been honored to receive several awards from the AEGD residents and faculty, including “Postdoctoral Staff of the Year 2013-2014” and “Postdoctoral Staff of the Year 2018-2019”.

Currently, I instruct dental students in the simulation laboratories for Operative, Fixed, Removable, Endodontics, International Dental Education Program and Interim Director for Dental Anatomy courses.
