Chiquita A. Collins, Ph.D., M.A., is recognized at both state and national levels for her work as it relates to medical and non-medical factors that contribute to health outcomes (e.g., childhood obesity). In 2016, she received the distinction of having one of the top 100 cited scientific papers on healthcare disparities research.
In 2017, Dr. Collins joined UT Health San Antonio from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed post-doctoral training at the University of California at San Francisco and UC Berkeley School of Public Health as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Scholar. Dr. Collins has expertise in community-based participatory research, which is an action research approach involving collaboration among researchers and community members directly impacted by population health. She has served on national and regional advisory boards. She has a doctorate in demography and population studies and a master’s degree in survey methodology from the University of Michigan.
As a population health researcher, Dr. Collins is a scientist who studies the patterns and determinants of health across large populations, utilizing methods from epidemiology, biostatistics, and social sciences to identify factors influencing health outcomes, gaps in healthcare access, and chronic disease prevalence, ultimately aiming to improve the overall well-being of communities.
