Mubeen Cheema, MD

Dr. Cheema went to medical school at Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He was a recipient of Begum Shafiqa Zia-ul-Haq Merit Scholarship for academic rank in top 15% of his class and was awarded honors in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Ophthalmology and Forensic Medicine. He subsequently moved to San Antonio to start Internal Medicine Internship and Residency here at UT Health San Antonio. Upon completion of residency, he worked as a Chief Resident and Hospitalist for one year in our department. Having been interested in Cardiology from the start, he decided to continue training at UT Health San Antonio for his Cardiology Fellowship. Dr. Cheema is currently a Chief Fellow and is expected to complete his fellowship in June 2021. He has been involved in research projects in the Division of Cardiology for a few years. He co-authored a book chapter on “Distal Embolization During Atherectomy for Lower Extremity Peripheral Arterial Disease” with Dr. Anand Prasad. More recently, he has been working on research projects on the association of rate related left bundle branch block with cardiomyopathy, and echocardiographic analysis of anatomic variants of mitral subvalvular apparatus.

Dr. Cheema has had a well-rounded training in internal medicine and general cardiology at our residency and fellowship programs. He has also obtained valuable teaching and leadership skills in his roles as Chief Resident and Chief Fellow. He is aspiring to continue his professional development by joining as faculty in the Division of Cardiology.
