Sylvia Botros-Brey, MD, MSCI

Dr. Sylvia Botros-Brey earned her B.S. in Biology at the University of Dallas and M.D. from the University of Texas Health Houston. After her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Health Houston at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital she completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology) at Northwestern University concurrently with her Masters in Clinical Investigation at Northwestern’s School of Public Health. After practicing in Chicago for over a decade, she feels privileged to join the faculty of UT Health San Antonio.   

Dr. Botros-Brey specializes in disorders of the pelvic floor in women and sees patients at the MARC, Hill Country and RBG campuses. In addition to her clinical practice, she is actively involved in research, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications in the field of urogynecology and medical education. 

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Botros-Brey has a particular interest in medical education. She started and directs the fellowship program here at UT Health San Antonio in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, a joint program between the Departments of Urology and Obstetrics and Genecology. Her educational leadership efforts span the medical education continuum.  She is Co-Director for the Lozano Long School of Medicine preclinical course, Medicine, Behavior and Society and has a faculty appointment in the Department of Medical Education focused on faculty development. She has been appointed the Executive Director of the newly forming Academy of Educational Scholars for the Lozano Long School of Medicine. Dr. Botros-Brey has a particular interest in teaching professionalism across the educational continuum and her current research interest is focused on finding meaningful interventions to be able to address challenging learning environments.  

Dr. Botros-Brey has held several national and international leadership roles. She currently serves as treasurer on the Executive Board of the International Urogynecology Association and an Oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  She has been selected for and completed the prestigious Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics Scholars and Leaders program as well as the Medical Education, Research, Innovation and Teaching Fellowship at the University of Chicago.
