Raul J Bonilla, DDS

Assistant Professor/Clinical

Dr. Bonilla is a compassionate, bilingual dentist with over 12 years of experience providing comprehensive dental care in private practice settings. He earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) in 2013, where he developed a strong foundation in restorative, prosthodontic, cosmetic, and preventive dentistry. During his training, Dr. Bonilla served as a teaching assistant and course liaison for multiple preclinical prosthodontics, oral pathology, and dental hand skills courses, fostering his passion for dental education and mentorship.

His academic interests include oral health literacy and community outreach, as reflected in his contributions to research on early childhood caries and oral health education for underserved populations, as well as skeletal muscle regeneration. Dr. Bonilla was honored with the Corazón Con Dignidad Award in recognition of his scholastic achievement, leadership, and service to improving oral health in Hispanic communities.

Committed to lifelong learning, Dr. Bonilla has completed advanced training in implantology, bone grafting, digital dental technology, and the management of obstructive sleep apnea. He has also volunteered with the San Antonio Refugee Health Clinic and Texas Medicaid’s First Dental Home initiative, providing care and education to vulnerable populations.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, he strives to bridge the gap between private practice and dental education. The goal is to bring his clinical expertise and dedication to a progressive teaching institution, preparing the next generation of dental professionals with a patient-centered approach and a commitment to excellence.
