Dr. Sravani Avula was born and raised in Hyderabad, a city in South India. Her passion towards medicine started at a very young age, when she was listening to stories from her mother about how doctors play a crucial role in the society by saving people’s lives. Dr. Avula remembers telling others as a kid that, she would become a doctor when she grows up. By the time she was in high school, she was very determined to pursue medicine. Dr. Avula graduated from Kakatiya Medical College with honors. During medical school she was drawn towards Internal Medicine and decided to pursue residency in the USA. Before starting residency, she had the opportunity to work as a non-compensatory volunteer research assistant in Cardiology department at Metro Health Hospital in Cleveland. Dr. Avula graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria Internal Medicine Residency Program. During residency, her passion towards cardiology strengthened even more. She was mesmerized by the wide breadth of cardiology, the intellectually challenging aspect of it and the need for timely complex decision-making skills for better patient outcomes. Dr. Avula graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria Cardiovascular Fellowship Program. During her training years, she was well known for her dedication, hard work and commitment to patient care. Dr. Avula was very much liked by the staff and patients for her collegial behavior.

Dr. Avula will be starting as a non-invasive general cardiologist at University of Texas San Antonio. Her areas of interests include general cardiology, echocardiography, stress testing, preventive cardiology, heart failure, women with heart disease and valvular heart disease. Dr. Avula strongly believes in providing quality patient care by being a good listener, focusing on shared decision making with patients, and considering multidisciplinary team approach when indicated.

Dr. Avula is married and has two kids. Outside medicine, Dr. Avula enjoys spending time with family, listening to music, singing, dancing, and cooking.
