Assistant Professor/Clinical

As a doctoral-prepared, board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Assistant Professor at UT Health San Antonio, and founder of Amphyst Behavioral Health, I am committed to advancing accessible, high-quality mental health care through the integration of clinical practice, education, and scholarship. My work is grounded in active outpatient psychiatric practice, where I translate evidence into real-world care while preparing future nurse practitioners to do the same.

In my academic role, I develop and deliver clinically rigorous, competency-based education that emphasizes diagnostic reasoning, psychopharmacologic decision-making, and patient-centered care. I focus on preparing future PMHNPs for practice through applied learning, with particular emphasis on interprofessional collaboration and mental health advocacy. My teaching approach is rooted in bridging the gap between classroom learning and the realities of contemporary psychiatric practice.

As a practice owner, I bring a systems-informed perspective shaped by direct experience with access-to-care issues, reimbursement structures, and the operational demands of outpatient psychiatry. This dual role strengthens both my teaching and scholarly work, ensuring alignment with the needs of patients, students, and the broader healthcare environment.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing Science at Texas Woman’s University, my research focuses on interprofessional dynamics between physicians and nurse practitioners, including physicians’ perceptions and attitudes toward NPs, e-professionalism, and the impact of these relationships on access to mental health care. My work aims to better understand how professional interactions influence collaboration and ultimately affect patient access to psychiatric services.

I remain committed to advancing mental health care through clinically grounded education, meaningful scholarship, and contributions that support effective, collaborative practice environments.
